About Jalapeño Pepper

Jalapeño peppers are medium-sized chili peppers with moderate heat and excellent flavor. The glossy green fruits mature to red and can be harvested at either stage. These compact plants are productive and adaptable to container growing, making them perfect for small spaces.

General Care Instructions

Sunlight Requirements

Full sun (6-8 hours minimum). In very hot climates, light afternoon shade may be beneficial.

Watering Needs

Consistent moisture is critical, especially during fruit development. Provide 1-2 inches of water weekly, adjusted for rainfall and temperature.

Temperature Range

Prefers temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Growth slows below 55°F (13°C) and may be damaged by frost.

Fertilizer Requirements

Apply balanced fertilizer at planting time. Once flowering begins, switch to a phosphorus-rich fertilizer to encourage fruit production.

Harvesting

Harvest in approximately 75 days from planting. Pick regularly to encourage continued production. For tomatoes, harvest when fruits are firm and fully colored; for cucumbers, harvest when they reach 2-4 inches for pickling varieties.
